Swine are widely used in protocols that involve anesthesia and invasive surgical procedures. In order to ensure proper recovery of animals, preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative techniques specific to the species need to be considered. This manuscript makes recommendations on the monitoring and care of swine during the perioperative period. Detailed descriptions of surgical and technical procedures are available. This manuscript makes recommendations for using swine in survival surgical procedures.
