ACT 41st Annual Meeting

Sinclair Research is proud to be a Platinum Sponsor of the American College of Toxicology’s 2020 Virtual Meeting!

A global community of scientists from pharmaceutical and biotech industries, regulatory agencies, contract research organizations, academia, and consulting firms, ACT aims to promoting the exchange of relevant information and perspectives on safety assessment and new developments related to applied toxicology.

This year’s Virtual Annual Meeting will include a wide-ranging scientific program, continuing education opportunities, poster sessions and numerous virtual professional events.

As a platinum sponsor at this year’s ACT Annual Meeting, Sinclair’s scientific experts will be center-stage,  leading exhibitor-hosted sessions, serving on discussion panels and presenting the latest insights from our research!

Exhibitor-Hosted Session:

“The Minipig as a Model for Juvenile Toxicity Studies”

Date: Thursday, Nov. 12 at 10 a.m. CT

Presented by:  Dr. Jeff Klein, Ph.D., DABT, Sinclair Research’s Director of Toxicology

Continuing Education Classes:

“Practical Considerations in Experimental Design for In Vivo Studies”

Date: Thursday, Nov. 12 at 10 a.m. CT
Featuring: Dr. Scott E. Boley, Sinclair Research’s Vice President of Research

About this course: Various types of in vivo studies related to toxicology. This course will focus on understanding the role that acute toxicology, pharmacokinetic and maximum tolerated dose (MTD) studies play in toxicological research. In addition, the course will examine the roles of Dose‐range finder (DRF) studies, Developmental and reproductive toxicology (DART) and Juvenile toxicology.

Poster Presentations:

Gentamicin-Induced #Ototoxicity in Hartley Guinea Pigs

Presented in conjunction with Turner Scientific

Abstract: Ototoxicity was investigated in male and female Hartley Guinea Pigs treated with 14 consecutive days of gentamicin at 40, 80, or 160 mg/kg given subcutaneously and compared to saline-treated controls. Guinea pigs are a common model of ototoxicity, but no sex differences have previously been reported. Baseline auditory brainstem response (ABR) tests were performed before the first dose and again 14 days after the last dose of gentamicin or saline. Cochlea were dissected using a whole mount preparation and immunofluorescent staining was performed using myosin VIIa and the nuclear dye, Hoeschst.

“Downsizing Sinclair Miniature Swine Using A Nutritional Approach”

Abstract: The objective was to evaluate different nutritional management approaches to reduce the size of the Sinclair miniature swine (SMS), while maintaining normal physiology and health status as part of a SMS downsizing program. The food regimen used for the SMS has not been optimized for growth management and allows full body weight development while maintaining 20-30% body fat, even during the acute growth phase.

“Validation of the Use of a Telemetry Study to Measure Hemodynamic, Electrocardiographic and Respiratory Parameters in the Conscious Dog”

Presented in conjunction with CorDynamics

Abstract: Animal research remains a critical component to safety evaluation of candidate drugs, with telemetry providing insightful cardiorespiratory data. Safety pharmacology supports reducing animal numbers while optimizing study outcomes. Therefore, Beagle dogs were instrumented with Data Sciences International (DSI) implants (L11/L11R), and a structured Latin Square crossover design was used to ascertain the discrete effects of verapamil, dofetilide and doxapram.

As one of the largest nonclinical CROs in North America, Sinclair Research offers animal efficacy models, PK/PD evaluation, and IND-enabling toxicology and safety pharmacology research services to help support biopharmaceutical, animal health and medical device development programs.
