Micro-Yucatan™ Miniature Swine

Micro-Yucatan miniature swine have the same origin as the Yucatan miniature swine:

    • Developed from 25 animals imported from southern Mexico into the United States in 1960 at Colorado State University with funding from the Kroc Foundation
    • Introduction of a small Yucatan boar from Thompson Research to the Colorado State University breeding program resulted in “Martha”, the first micro-sized Yucatan
    • Charles River Laboratories assumed the breeding of the Micro-Yucatan in 1985
    • Sinclair Bio Resources acquired the colony in 2002
    • The colony is located in Windham, ME
    • The colony is closed and fully-pedigreed

    • Particularly known for their docile temperament and ease of handling
    • Darkly pigmented skin with little or no hair
    • Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) spontaneous model available
    • The Micro-Yucatan is generally interchangeable with the Yucatan and is used as a large animal cardiovascular mode
